Mission Cataract USA

As part of our humanitarian effort to contribute in a meaningful way to our community and to be source of good work for the society at large, the physicians and surgeons of Ohio Eye Alliance are proud to be participating surgeons in a project called Mission Cataract since 1996. Mission Cataract USA offers free cataract surgery to people of all ages who have no means to pay. The provision of free surgery involves the entire staff of Ohio Eye Alliance including its optometrists and technicians, manufacturers of the Intraocular Lens, the cooperation of local hospitals and Surgery Centers who donate their time and resources, and anesthesiologists at each facility.

“The goal is to help some of the many working people who need cataract surgery, but can’t afford to pay for it”, says Dr. Sanjeev Dewan, as “they have minimal insurance coverage or don’t qualify for Medicare, Medicaid, or any other form of outside help”. “These are usually younger, otherwise active contributors to society who fall between the cracks” states Dr. Paul Garfinkle. Dr.’s Dewan and Garfinkle have been active with Mission Cataract in both the Alliance and Canton areas in cooperation with Surgery Alliance and Mercy Medical Center. If you are interested in Mission Cataract USA or know of someone who could benefit contact us today.
